Established in 1899,
Dittmar & Indrenius is one of the very oldest law firms in
Finland. The firm has seen Finland's last years as an imperial
Russian Grand Duchy and the development of the Republic of Finland,
independent since 1917, through two world wars to become the present-day
globalised economy and member state of the European Union.
The name Dittmar & Indrenius refers to two of its founding
partners, John Dittmar (1865 - 1925) and Emanuel Indrenius (1866
- 1932).
From the outset Dittmar
& Indrenius was closely connected to the industry and the
banking and finance sector. John Dittmar represented many of the
leading industrial companies and financial institutions of the
day, but also private clients like Carl Gustaf Mannerheim, General
and later Marshal and President of Finland.

After the Second World
War Dittmar & Indrenius established itself as one of the leading
Helsinki law firms capable of serving international companies
setting up or acquiring businesses in Finland.
Consequently, the firm
was often involved in cases that were the first of their kind
in Finland, e.g., establishing a foreign-owned commercial
bank in this country and advising in the first cross-border bank
merger in the Nordic countries.
During the past two decades Dittmar
& Indrenius has witnessed a dramatic increase in transactional
and litigation work and steadily grown in size, while holding
true to the firm's core values: emphasis on quality, and long-standing
client relationships.
