We invited our women’s network, our friends, clients and corporate contacts to join us in celebrating attitude, impact, power and sustainability on the eve of International Women’s Day.
Around 140 strong women with attitude spent the evening mixing and mingling at D&I’s offices and listening to our thought-provoking guest speakers: board professional Arja Talma, Ateneum’s Museum Director Marja Sakari, Executive Director of CMI Tuija Talvitie, CEO of Kämp Collection Hotels Laura Tarkka and visual artist Katja Tukiainen, famous for her pink and sassy Attitude Girls works and Paradise installations.
We got acquainted with Katja Tukiainen a couple of years ago when we commissioned one of the first virtual reality (VR) painting installations from her to celebrate our 118th anniversary. This is when the amazing Paradis R (Race to the Stars) was born. When you enter Katja’s VR-painted fairy-tale land, you are free to walk around and look behind every tree and unicorn. A human voice creates an organic soundtrack for the digital land you enter with your eyes and ears. The vocals for the VR painting were sung by vocal sound artist Heidi Fast, who collaborated with Tukiainen.
This year, we are proud to support Katja Tukiainen’s participation at the fifth edition of the international exhibition PERSONAL STRUCTURES organised by the GAA Foundation in Venice, Italy during the time of the Venice Biennale Arte 2019.
”“In my paintings I ask you to empathize with someone who has a more quiet voice, less power and less possibilities. I paint intuitively and only afterwards I see how I took part in the social debate. As a person I am pretty private but I make my art works to be seen. If they create conversation, I have succeeded.”
Katja Tukiainen, Visual artist
”“In this room I see a sea of equal opportunities and educated, professional women: all that the developing world sees as the solution for burning global problems. I challenge you – how will you use your power for good?”
Tuija Talvitie, Executive Director, CMI
”“Tuija Talvitie’s words will linger in my mind for a long time. I feel both entitled and empowered to act and give back to the society.”
Lotta Niemelä, Employment Lawyer, Finnish National Opera and Ballet, D&I Alumna
”“I am a strong believer in the power of believing in one’s own growth capabilities without limitations, and that attitude I’ve gotten from my father. I urge you all to find your courage and seize the opportunities that come your way – you are capable, just as you are.”
Arja Talma, Board professional
”“I always choose attitude over intelligence. I believe that your problem is never really the problem but your attitude may be. Going forward, what really matters in business and life in general, is a collaborative attitude – that we assume others around us have the best intentions and are doing the very best they can.”
Laura Tarkka, CEO, Kämp Collection Hotels
