Advising on competition law matters relating to the sale of Junnikkala to Stora Enso

We advised the shareholders of Junnikkala Oy on all competition law aspects relating to the sale of the company to Stora Enso Oyj.

The transaction triggered merger control notifications in several jurisdictions and we acted as the lead competition counsel on the seller side. In Finland, the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority initiated an in-depth investigation (Phase II) to the matter, but ultimately the acquisition was cleared without commitments.

Junnikkala Oy, founded in 1960, is a leading family-owned Finnish sawmill company that procures, processes and manufactures wood products for domestic and export markets.

Stora Enso is a leading provider of renewable products in packaging, biomaterials, and wooden construction, and one of the largest private forest owners in the world.
