The Finnish Defense Forces are currently engaged in two large strategic procurement projects; the HX Fighter Program and the Squadron 2020 Project. The value of these projects is estimated to reach from 8 to over 11 billion euros. The projects will be financed separately from the budget of the Finnish Defense Forces. Approximately 5 % of the Finnish State budget is allocated to the Finnish Defense Forces.

At the same time, the volume of civil aviation in Finland is expected to grow at a rapid pace. This growth is supported by the successful Asia -strategy implemented by the national airline Finnair.
